Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC)

The Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) is a non-profit organization founded in 2003, dedicated to improving the protection of civilians caught in armed conflicts. CIVIC's mission is to advocate for the rights and interests of affected communities and to promote policies and practices that prevent civilian harm during armed conflicts.

CIVIC's work focuses on four main areas:

1. Advocacy: CIVIC engages with governments, military forces, and armed non-state actors to promote the adoption of policies and practices that minimize civilian harm. They also advocate for the establishment of mechanisms to track, investigate, and address civilian casualties.
2. Research and analysis: CIVIC conducts research and analysis to better understand the causes and consequences of civilian harm in conflict situations. Their research helps inform their advocacy efforts and supports the development of policy recommendations to protect civilians.
3. Training and capacity building: CIVIC provides training and technical assistance to armed forces and other stakeholders to help them better understand their obligations under international law and to implement best practices for civilian protection.
4. Community engagement: CIVIC works with local communities affected by conflict to amplify their voices and ensure that their perspectives and needs are taken into account in policy discussions and decision-making processes.
