About Us

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is an international agricultural research centre that focuses on food policy research and analysis to improve food security, alleviate poverty, and promote sustainable natural resource management. Established in 1975, IFPRI is a member of the CGIAR Consortium, a global partnership of research organizations dedicated to addressing critical challenges related to agriculture, food, and the environment.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., IFPRI operates in more than 50 countries and collaborates with national governments, international organizations, NGOs, and private-sector partners to develop evidence-based policies and strategies that address food and nutrition security challenges.

IFPRI's research areas include:

  1. Food systems and value chains: Analyzing food systems, from production to consumption, to identify opportunities for improving efficiency, reducing waste, and enhancing nutrition outcomes.
  2. Climate change and natural resource management: Assessing the impacts of climate change on agriculture and food security and identifying adaptation and mitigation strategies.
  3. Poverty, health, and nutrition: Investigating the complex linkages between poverty, health, and nutrition, with an emphasis on understanding the role of policies and interventions in improving well-being.
  4. Governance and institutions: Examining the effectiveness of various institutions and policies in promoting food security, poverty reduction, and sustainable resource management.

IFPRI produces a range of publications, including research reports, policy briefs, books, and discussion papers, to inform policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders about their findings and recommendations. The organization is also known for its annual Global Food Policy Report, which provides an in-depth analysis of major food policy developments and trends around the world.
